“Ransomeware attacks against our healthcare system are coming at a terrible time. More may follow, as hospitals are put on high-alert to protect their data and systems.”

Cybercriminals from Eastern European countries again hit several hospitals with coordinated ransomware attacks last week. The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the FBI and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) said the virus is a strain of Trickbot malware, “often leading to ransomware attacks, data theft and the disruption of healthcare services.” The FBI has issued warnings that more attacks may follow. These coordinated attacks, if successful, could paralyze hospital information systems just as nationwide cases of COVID-19 are spiking.
Agencies are urging institutions to take necessary precautions to protect their networks. More details on the current attacks and recent attacks in September is available in this article by O’Ryan Johnson for CRN.com news.
